PATRICK MELROSE
THE STORY
Patrick Melrose is a five-part drama mini-series for Sky, based on the Patrick Melrose novels by Edward St Aubyn, and adapted by writer David Nicholls.
Patrick Melrose follows the story of Patrick Melrose (Benedict Cumberbatch), a troubled member of the English upper class, from his childhood in the South of France in the 1960s, to his adult life in New York and London. Abused by his father as a child, Patrick suffers from psychological trauma, and battles with heroin addiction. His father David Melrose (Hugo Weaving), a sadistic and terrifying man, controls the lives of Patrick and his mother Eleanor (Jennifer Jason Leigh), an American woman with addiction problems of her own. The series tracks Patrick’s multiple attempts to rehabilitate, his father’s death, his struggle to be a good father, his mother’s desire for assisted suicide, and the loss of the family home to a New Age foundation.
